- Olive Oil
- Kosher or Sea Salt
This has to be one of the most amazing vegetables to grace the dinner plate. With the right amount of salt and the right amount of time in the oven these little green gems not only taste amazing but provide second to none nutrition. Preparation is easy, cooking is simple, and seasoning can be done at anytime.
I always like to make sure I have high quality olive oil on hand, it may seem insignificant but you will notice a difference when you splurge for the good stuff. Olive oil is versatile and can be used in just about anything, I am a fan of dishes where the oil accents the food, Brussels Sprouts are one of those foods.
Before anything, preheat your oven to 400 degrees, odds are your prep work will be done before your oven is at temperature. Make sure to thoroughly wash your sprouts under cold water and give them a quick pat down with a paper towel to dry them off. Remove any yellow or brown colored leaves from the outside and trip off just a small portion of the stem leaving enough in tact to hold it together. Slice the sprouts in half lengthwise and place into a bowl.
Drizzle these amazing little vegetables with olive oil (lightly, just enough for a thin coat) and sprinkle with sea salt or Kosher salt. I personally prefer Kosher salt when it comes to vegetables. Lay out on a baking sheet, lined with aluminum foil for easy clean up and cook for 30-40 minutes. You will want to rotate these half way through to get nice browning on all sides.
There are so many studies done with Brussels Sprouts which highlight their nutrition benefits. One of the most prominent benefits is the aid in prevention of many types of cancers. This is due to the bodies detox, antioxidant, and inflammatory systems. An imbalance in these systems has been linked to increased cancer risk. Brussels targets all three of these systems making it one wonderful veg!
